Programs

Below is a summary of our initiating Marlboro Foundation programs. We hope our programming, scope and reach will grow and evolve as we provide fiscal sponsorship to additional events and programs.

Marlboro Studio School is an all-levels arts program offering hands-on instruction in a variety of craft and fine-art media, with a focus on ecologically sound, environmentally-friendly techniques and processes. Our aim is to foster personal growth and creative discovery in a supportive setting for beginners and professional artists alike. Programming includes studio classes, public lectures, exhibitions, and artist residencies. The program is headed by former Penland School of Craft Resident Artist and nationally-recognized ceramic artist David Eichelberger.

Wellspring is an experiential education center currently offering programs that explore the nature of mind, the nature of ecosystems, and the nature of human communities (such as Touching the Earth: A Homestead Retreat for Young Adults). We hope to expand our offerings to include more retreats and professional trainings, providing opportunities to pause, explore new ideas, learn practical skills, connect with others, and imagine new ways of living. Drawing on the traditions of mindfulness, council practice, holistic education, and the Work That Reconnects, we cultivate inclusive learning communities and empower individuals to make meaningful contributions in the transition to a life-sustaining society. Wellspring is directed by Kirstin Edelglass, a holistic educator with three decades of experience in the field.

Word House Writing Workshops is a fledgling literary arts center rooted in Marlboro, Vermont. Utilizing various spaces in the area, Word House offers year-round in-person and virtual classes, mentoring programs, retreats, and readings, all aimed to empower and enrich the creative, intellectual, and artistic lives of a diverse demographic of writers, both locally and afar. Word House is directed by Robin MacArthur, an experienced educator and the author of two award-winning books of fiction.

Farm & Forest Climate Initiative is an educational and research program focused on local forests and agroecosystems and their capacity to ameliorate climate change. Healthy ecosystems sequester and store carbon in soils and their associated organisms while supporting biodiversity, climate resilience, and equitable well-being for all human communities both locally and globally. Alongside these natural climate solutions, the program emphasizes actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our initial climate projects, led by Jennifer Ramstetter & Todd Smith, include revitalizing a community-based garden/greenhouse, supporting forest conservation efforts, and providing educational programming. The Climate Initiative will collaborate with leaders and participants from diverse backgrounds.
